Join ERNI to build reliable, scalable software for lab solutions that make a real impact on patients. We’re looking for a hands-on Lead Rust Engineer to set the technical direction of a cross-functional team and drive high-quality delivery.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Rust software engineer with a proven track record of leading technical initiatives in complex software environments. You enjoy solving challenging technical problems while empowering others to perform at their best.
You lead by example, encourage open communication and create an environment where engineers can grow and deliver their best work.
What you will bring 🤝
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in software/electrical engineering or a related field.
Strong, hands-on Rust development experience (preferably more than 4 years) with deep understanding of core Rust concepts (ownership, borrowing, lifetimes) and asynchronous programming (async/await).
Proficiency with Rust libraries/frameworks (Tokio, Actix-web, Rocket, Serde, SQL), and Foreign-Function Interfaces.
Experience with Linux containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and basic scripting.
Experience with message brokers (e.g. RabbitMQ), event-driven architecture, event stores, event sourcing, and actor models.
Experience with applying design patterns relevant for distributed systems.
Exposure to AI-enabled software development practices and modern cloud-native architectures.
Familiar with Domain-Driven-Design (DDD), Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD).
English fluent.
SAFe/Agile experience is essential.
Nice to have:
Background in regulated domains (medical devices)
React and automated UI testing experience
German language skills
ISAQB or similar architecture qualification
You will be responsible for
Define and communicate the team’s technical vision and architecture.
Convert business needs into scalable, secure solutions.
Design, build and maintain Rust services and FFI integrations.
Lead async/concurrent development (Tokio, Serde, Actix, etc.).
Oversee deployments on Docker/Kubernetes.
Promote code reviews, automated tests and CI/CD.
Apply DDD, TDD/BDD and best practices for distributed systems.
Design reliable messaging and event-driven patterns.
Mentor engineers and remove technical blockers.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture.
Support planning, estimation and prioritization.
Work with Product, QA, DevOps and Architects.
Coordinate technical dependencies across teams.
Communicate technical concepts clearly in Agile/SAFe ceremonies.
